The 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards (ACMs) took place this past Sunday, April 7th. This year, nine country acts were contenders for the ACM’s much coveted Best New Artist trophy. Prior to the awards, the nine first-round nominees were narrowed down to three, based on fans’ votes. Since New Emmylou is dedicated to covering up and coming country artists, this Storify “ACM Awards 2013: The Road to Best New Artist,” tracks the journey of the nominees, leading up to Scotty McCreery, last year’s Best New Artist, announcing this year’s winner.

Dirt Road Diaries Tour: Florida Georgia Line & Thompson Square
Luke Bryan’s Dirt Road Diaries Tour is one of the hottest country tours right now. Florida Georgia Line, Thompson Square and Luke Bryan are touring now through October. The three bands played the iWireless Center this past Saturday in Moline, Illinois. The crowd stood throughout all three acts and thoroughly seemed to enjoy the show. Florida Georgia Line wowed the crowd with “Cruise,” Thompson Square floored the audience with their amazing chemistry and Luke Bryan had the country girls shaking it for him through the whole show.
